Mariela C. D’Alessio is the founder and owner of D’Alessio Law, LLC, a boutique law firm dedicated to helping individuals, families, and business owners preserve their assets, protect their loved ones, and plan confidently for the future. Her practice is concentrated in estate planning, trust and estate administration, guardianships, and related transactional matters.

Ms. D’Alessio regularly works with clients to develop personalized and comprehensive estate plans tailored to their unique goals, family dynamics, and financial circumstances. Her estate planning practice includes the preparation of Revocable and Irrevocable Trusts, Last Wills and Testaments, Living Wills, Medical and Financial Powers of Attorney, beneficiary designation planning, asset protection strategies, business succession planning including Professional Last Wills and Testaments.

In addition to helping clients establish their estate plans, Ms. D’Alessio is frequently retained to guide families through the administration of estates and trusts following the loss of a loved one. She assists Personal Representatives, Trustees, and beneficiaries with probate proceedings, trust administration, fiduciary responsibilities, and the resolution of complex estate and trust matters. She also represents clients in guardianship proceedings involving minors and disabled adults.

Beyond her estates and trusts practice, Ms. D’Alessio assists clients with a variety of transactional matters, including business formation, the review and drafting of business contracts and agreements, and real estate transactions such as deeds, contracts of sale, and commercial and residential leases.

Known for her practical guidance and compassionate approach, Ms. D’Alessio strives to make complex legal matters understandable and manageable for her clients while providing personalized service tailored to each family’s needs.

Ms. D’Alessio has been a resident of Harford County since 1989, when her family relocated from New York. Outside of her practice, she enjoys spending time with her husband and young son and staying active with her family. She is an avid hockey fan and enjoys reading and cooking for family and friends.

Prior to founding D’Alessio Law, Ms. D’Alessio initially worked as an associate attorney and then as a partner at Smith, Gildea & Schmidt, LLC. Ms. D’Alessio started her legal career upon graduation from Villa Julie College, now known as Stevenson University, as a paralegal and then as an associate attorney upon graduating from Florida Coastal School of Law and successfully passing the bar exam at Bodie Law. While in law School, Ms. D’Alessio served as a judicial intern to Judge Peter O. Dearing (now retired), Probate Division of the Fourth Circuit of Duval County, Florida.

PRENUPTIAL / POSTNUPTIAL AGREEMENTS

A Prenuptial Agreement is an agreement made between two individuals who intend to be married and wish to define certain property and support rights in the event the marriage ends in divorce or death. To the contrary, a Postnuptial Agreement is the same type of agreement, but the individuals are already married. These types of agreements help define the parties’ expectations in the event of divorce or death and provide necessary protections that the terms mutually agreed upon will be honored.

The accurate titling of real property is an integral part of our client’s estate plan. GUARDIANSHIP

Sometimes guardianship is appropriate and necessary when a disabled person, known as a “ward”, lacks the ability to make responsible medical and financial decisions for oneself usually as a result of a physical or mental disability. Guardianship is the legal process by which the court appoints one or more individuals to manage the person and/or property of a ward who can no longer make such medical and/or financial decisions on his or her own. At D’Alessio Law, we are able to assist clients with all stages of the guardianship proceedings for both guardianship of an adult disabled person or a minor.

At D’Alessio Law, we stress the importance that everyone should have an estate plan and not allow for the default laws of your State to dictate the distribution of your assets at death. We advise clients on all aspects of estate planning and break our process down into two phases. Phase One is the fact-finding process in which we meet with our clients to better understand their specific goals and wishes. Thereafter, we are able to prepare a uniquely tailored and customized estate plan aimed at providing our clients with peace of mind that all difficult decisions have been addressed.

Phase Two commences after the execution of your customized estate planning documents. We work with our clients to ensure the proper titling and beneficiary designations coincide with the newly implemented estate plan.

Through both Phases of the estate planning process, we utilize a collaborative approach with our clients other trusted advisors such as accountants, investment advisors, and financial planners, to ensure our most appropriate estate plan to achieve our clients’ goals and wishes. Since effective estate planning is an essential and ongoing process, we regularly meet with our clients to addresses changes in their family business and financial circumstances in conjunction with the then current tax code and other laws.
