As of October 1, 2023, Maryland law allows any two unmarried adults to become registered domestic partners by filing a Declaration of Domestic Partnership with their local Register of
Wills. This law is substantial in that it allows the surviving registered partner to specific benefits in intestacy such as inheritance tax exemption, spousal share of the estate, priority to serve as
